Margaret Zacharin

Prof Zacharin is a clinical endocrinologist in both paediatric and adult endocrine practice, with clinical research in growth and puberty, fertility preservation, hormone replacement treatment of adolescent hypogonadism plus primary and secondary bone fragility disorders, resulting in over 160 published papers.

She has a major interest in teaching, having participated in international teaching schools including those in Africa, Asia, Europe and USA.  Creation and free provision of translated educational booklets on paediatric endocrinology for families in 15 languages to date has been an international collaborative effort, together with a textbook of paediatric endocrinology for limited resource settings.

Her work has been recognized by awards of the Order of Australia medal (OAM), the Elizabeth Turner medal for best clinician Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne 2009, the Robert Vines medal of the Australasian paediatric endocrine group (APEG) for clinical excellence 2016 and the Outstanding Clinician award of the European Society of Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) 2017.
